What is a movement doctor? Are you a medical Doctor? Do you prescribe medication?
The title "movement doctor" is a concept, not an official title. My concept refers to any masters or higher level qualified professional who focuses on the musculoskeletal system, this can but does not have to include the neuromuscular skeletal system. They do not have to be medically trained. Doctor in this sense represents higher level training and expertise compared to other non tertiary trained muscle or body therapists. We do not prescribe medication, but we often prescribe holidays, exercise, treatment programs and over the counter medication which is usually all you need to get most everyday issues sorted.
How should I prepare for my initial consultation?
Wear something loose and comfortable- a singlet and shorts are a good option. Depending on the type of treatment you have and which area needs to be accessed, some of the consult may be done in your underwear with a towel draped over you- for example, needling of the lower back. Make sure you have recently eaten and are well hydrated. If you have acute pain it is easier for me to asses you without painkillers in your system.
Will you treat me on my first visit?
Usually, yes, I will. Sometimes if it is a complex case I may need to schedule treatment for a follow up appointment, or I may need to refer you for some scans to investigate before I can treat you.

Are you going to "crack" my spine?

There is a lot more to chiropractic than manipulation, it is what we are known for because at a university level it is a large focus of what we do, we also spend a significant amount of time learning the peripheral system, neurology and spinal rehabilitation. Manipulation may be a suitable treatment for you, however it is only one tool in our toolbox.
